Gas lift valves & mandrels
Gas lift equipment, ready for your well.
Whatever your well's geometry, or whether it needs continuous or intermittent lift, we have a valve solution to optimise your operation.
API certified valves, mandrels and tools
01The valve
Wireline-retrievable, injection-pressure-operated.
The kind of gas lift valve that is set in the side pocket of a gas lift mandrel. At the top, the running and retrieving latch: fishing neck, latch ring and shear pin.
- Body
- Stainless steel, turned and fine-brushed
- Size
- About 1.5 in outside diameter
02Inside
Nitrogen dome, Monel bellows, carbide ball and seat.
The dome is the nitrogen-charged chamber, filled through a core valve under the tail plug. Inside it, a multi-ply Monel bellows, loaded by the nitrogen charge, moves the stem. On the stem tip, a tungsten carbide ball closes on the seat: the port.
03Operation
It opens on injection pressure.
Three pressures meet at the bellows. The nitrogen dome pushes the stem down onto the seat. Injection gas from the casing pushes up on the bellows, and tubing pressure pushes up on the ball through the port. When the upward forces win, the valve opens.
At the port, the stem lifts the carbide ball off the seat and gas flows through. When injection pressure falls below the closing pressure (the dome pressure), the bellows extend and the ball reseats. Opening needs a little more than closing: tubing pressure helps only while the ball is on the seat.
04Check valve
Into the tubing, and no way back.
Gas from the port opens the reverse-flow check valve in the nose, a spring-loaded dart, and enters the tubing, lightening the fluid column. The dart stops tubing fluid flowing back.
05In the well
Set in the side pocket of a mandrel.
The valve runs on wireline into the side pocket of a gas lift mandrel, beside the tubing bore, so the bore stays open for tools. The packing stacks seal it in the pocket: injection gas from the casing annulus enters through the pocket ports, passes the valve and the check, and leaves into the tubing.
- Mandrel
- Oval body, full tubing bore, offset pocket
- Changing a valve
- Kickover tool on wireline, no workover
06Unloading
Down the well, one valve at a time.
A well has several mandrels, spaced by design. Gas injected down the annulus pushes the kill fluid out through the tubing and uncovers each valve in turn. As the gas reaches a deeper valve, the one above it closes on its lower setting, until gas enters only at the operating valve.
Gas pushes the fluid down the annulus
07Parts
Every part, in order.
From the top: the latch, the upper packing stack, the dome with its bellows, the stem and ball on the seat, the inlet ports, the lower packing stack, the check valve and the nose.
